For me, this very much reflects the basic difference between party platforms during most elections, especially stark during our latest: a choice between the fear of unknown forces or else a confident faith in reasonable outcomes, between the uncertainty of self-interests or a resolute sense of civic responsibility, between reactive or pro-active policies, between formulaic and creative responses, between pessimism and optimism, between laziness of will and roll-up-your-sleeves pragmatism, and between authoritarian and authoritative styles of parenting.
It also sheds light upon why Conservatives seem to attract both the richest and poorest of our electorate, as both socio-economic demographics literally have the most to lose, leaving the middle-class as the most functional defenders of constitutional guarantees of equal opportunity.
Finally, I posit that since "fight-or-flight" responses stem from limbic (older, instinctive) areas of brain response, lower levels of fear among so-called Liberals may well imply the moderation of higher-order brain activity. Many Conservatives express disdain for what they perceive as the intellectual smugness of Liberals. Could it be they're simply jealous?

Hi Pete.
I can't open some of the articles you've posted. I copy and paste the url in a new window and it won't always display the article.
