The war on drugs is nothing more than an extension of the Culture Wars. In the effort to win hearts and minds, a select few underprivileged scape-"goats" are denied their right to the pursuit of happiness by the barrel of a gun and the whim of whomever bears it. Jealous of the privilege that someone else has earned, well why not knock them down a peg by criminalizing their ability to relax and feel safe in the presence of others?
When did the police in Britain begin carrying firearms? Why didn't they for so long? Why do they now? What statistics justify the change? What justifies arming moral authorities against their own citizens?
In an article linked to this one, two little old ladies were targeted and one was killed in paramilitary-styled home raids. Since they were next door neighbors, I wonder if anyone has bothered to mark out a map of patterned, armed aggression.
Brings to mind a 15 yr. old firebombing in Old Town, PDX, that had linkages to our own PPD in those early days of planning the bus mall extension to the train station.
